IOW (In Other Words) was I project I created to unite people through imagination. Each participant was given a description of a common object. After reading the description they drew what they believed it was. Although each participant was given the same description, the drawn results all differed which ignited conversations between participants as to why they drew what they had drawn. In total there were about 200 participants. Their work was consolidated into a book.

I wanted to further extend the IOW project to other people. I converted the project into give-away packets that anyone could use to exchange ideas and enjoy  imaginations. The packets were distributed to random people.

The World, The Collective, The Secrets

This sourcebook is a a zeitgeist – a cumulation of topics that address the current state of design. These topics include: the relationship between analog and digital, the cost of higher education, tech-industry buzz words and the media’s greater effect.

ARPEGGIO Brand Renewal 

Brand Development Project, ARPEGGIO.Co, Seoul, Korea

ARPEGGIO is a company that manufactures home goods for the bedroom. I collaborated with this company to redesign their logo in an effort to increase their marketing. The concept is very simple; An 'A' to represent the company along with a comma to represent rest.

Conflict work series (8”x 11” paper with transparent film and red pen)

18 pieces of paper represent each month from January 2012 to June 2013. Over these 18 months I detailed the conflicts I experienced.

White paper beneath a transparent film shows specific dates and actual places on a map of New York City (sourced by Google). The paper also has explanations of the conflicts that happened at those times.

The red designs drawn on top of the transparent film represent the conflicts. 

The project created from a series of ideograms (symbols) I developed using my “Hometown Seoul” as the topic.

I incorporated my relationship to the past in the form of influences, history, weather, scent, landscape, people, food, and sound.

In Korea, primary school students keep what is called a picture diary. As young students may not be able to create sentences, pictures are used instead. This is my picture diary. I have created a new story using the different pictures I drew nearly 16 years ago. This is my attempt at communicating with myself when I was 7years old.

Participation

Active participation is imperative for good communication. This piece is composed of an empty set that I created along with several of the characters I drew in my picture diary. Various people used the characters and the set to design their own personal moment.

Even when gathered in one place people tend to let their thoughts drift elsewhere. The  In the (     ) project gathers people back together after they have mentally ventured elsewhere. This project was done in a classroom of students who were in the same physical location but their thoughts were in different places. The students were asked to fill in the (     ) with where they were mentally.

Contributions done by 20 classmates over 5 weeks.
